Our Top Interiors Trends for 2018

Our Top Interiors Trends for 2018

This week, a few of the PTD crew headed up to Top Drawer trade fair in London to get the skinny on all the latest trends for 2018. This event is one of our favourite trade fairs: it's an inspiration gorge fest and a brilliant opportunity to discover and meet new brands. We love it!

Our good friends at Trouva are the word when it comes to boutique and interior trends, and we were excited to hear their talk on the hottest trends for 2018 that they foresee being the kind of thing you Instagram feed will be full of. From 'things with faces on' to minimal line drawings, William Morris-meets-Frida Kahlo inspired styling, and plants that help you breath, here are our favourite trends forecast for the coming year and how you can shop them with Posh Totty Designs...

Wabi Sabi

Wabi Sabi collage

Wabi Sabi is an ancient Japanese philosophy-cum-art. It celebrates simplicity and imperfection, regarding blemishes and breaks as what makes something unique and carry a story of its own. Famously, breaks in ceramics were repaired with liquid gold as a way of championing the scars. Think wobbly, wonky, neutral tones and there's your Wabi Sabi right there.

Air Plants

These little things are seriously amazing! They need very little upkeep - just a light misting now and then - and so they're perfect for people who want to add some botanical interest to their living space, but aren't especially green fingered. Trouva also told us that air plants are master air purifiers, which wins our vote! Check out our range of planters for some ideas on how to display them.

Maximalism

Maximalism collage

Think bright colours, different textures, a mix and match mish-mash of eras and styles. Thik Frida Kahlo and Iris Apfel. Complete the cacophany with rich, masculine scents like incense and patchouli clashing with fresh citrussy aromas. The maximalism trend this year is something of a departure from our usual, signature Scandi style interiors we favour; but we secretly LOVE IT!

2. Cactus Shape Marquee Light

3. Pink Flamingo Party Pinata

4. Scented Candle in a Glass Pot

Statement Lighting

We're talking uber design - not just practical devices so you can see what you're doing. The trend of ligh fixtures that resemble art and sculpture before their actual purpose is going to be a thing this year. For lovers of the minimal, clean lined look, bold and daring in the light department is a great way of nudging in on the trends. Equally, if you're a maximalist, the rules are what you make them!
